Deputies patrolled Fort Calhoun and Arlington for business checks in the early hours when an accidental medical alert brought them to County Road 49. The afternoon erupted with a fully engulfed structure fire on Mad Hatter Lane – though thankfully all residents and their animals made it outside safely. The evening shifted to Highway 75 where deputies assisted Blair Police with traffic control after a car tangled with a semi near Hollow Road. The night ended in the jail, where deputies helped Blair PD and jail staff manage an uncooperative male arrested in a domestic disturbance.

A routine traffic stop in Fort Calhoun led to two arrests: Chelsea Ruiz for driving under Kansas suspension, and Edward Castillo for violating a protection order. Later, deputies raced to County Road 39 after reports of gunshots and screams, but found no evidence of disturbance. The night mellowed with deputies mediating a situation involving an intoxicated woman, who left with a friend rather than escalate matters further.

Sunday, December 8, 2024 Deputies positioned themselves at county entry points when Dodge County radioed about an incoming pursuit, though the chase never crossed the line. A more unusual call came when a resident reported being followed all the way from Omaha to their neighborhood by a white Ford with Iowa plates – deputies met them at Fort Calhoun’s Quik Pik to ensure a safe arrival home. Between rescue calls in Fort Calhoun and towing abandoned vehicles, deputies also played Good Samaritan, giving a stranded walker a lift to the gas station.
