Two Dogs Got Shot – Washington County, Nebraska Sheriff’s Report

A Quiet Week Turns Eventful with Unattended Death, Thefts, and a Pursuit Ending in Blair

What started as a routine week in Washington County took a few unexpected turns. A tragic unattended death was reported near Fort Calhoun, multiple arrests were made, and a pursuit that started in another county ended near the sheriff’s office in Blair. Meanwhile, local deputies were busy assisting schools, conducting business checks, and dealing with incidents ranging from runaway dogs to suspicious vehicles.

Friday, February 7
The morning started with business checks in Fort Calhoun and Arlington, all found secure. School patrols in both towns went smoothly.

In the early afternoon, a driver lost multiple bags of leaves on Highway 30 near CR P11, prompting deputies to assist in clearing the debris. Shortly after, a 2007 Chevy 2500 received a 24-hour red tag near Highway 133 and CR P38.

A field fire at 17200 Cattle Gate Lane required response from both Kennard and Bennington fire departments. Later in the afternoon, deputies responded to reports of suspicious individuals at 11000 Mallette Lane. The parties were simply “hanging out” and were advised to move along.

A tragic incident was reported at 15500 Heinssen Lane—a death investigation was opened for an unattended death. The day ended with deputies conducting a walk-through at an Arlington High School basketball game, with no issues reported.

Saturday, February 8
The early hours saw business checks in Arlington and Fort Calhoun, all clear. At 10:26 AM, deputies arrested 68-year-old Lawrence Chrapkowski on Highway 133 and MM 12 for Driving Under Suspension.

Just after noon, a theft suspect was taken into custody during a traffic stop at Highway 133 and CR 34. Jackie Richardson, 63, was arrested on two Sarpy County warrants while Blair PD continued investigating a theft case.

Later, a parent was caught vaping in the stands at Arlington High School. Deputies spoke with both parents, who agreed to stop vaping or smoking on school property.

The night took a tense turn when deputies assisted Burt County on a high-risk stop involving a suicidal party from Blair. The individual was taken into Emergency Protective Custody (EPC) by Burt County authorities.

Around 11:30 PM, a suspicious vehicle was reported at 12300 Earl Ave. A four-door Iowa-plated sedan had been parked at a residence for hours, but no one was inside, and no suspicious activity was found.

Sunday, February 9
At 1:03 AM, Ian Fower, 25, was arrested in Fort Calhoun for his first DUI. Routine business checks followed throughout the night.

Later in the morning, Arlington Volunteer Fire Department handled a rescue call at 8900 Co Rd 9.

One of the more unusual incidents of the week happened in the afternoon: a resident on 15300 Co Rd 3 reported that two dogs attacked his goats. The resident shot and killed one of the dogs and possibly injured the second, which was not located. A report was taken.

That evening, an aggressive dog lunged at an elderly woman and her daughter while they were walking their own dog in Arlington. Deputies responded and documented the case.

A more serious rescue call came in at 6200 CR P27 when a woman had fallen outside and remained there for four hours. Deputies helped the family cover her with blankets until Kennard Volunteer Fire Department arrived to assist.

Deputies were also called to investigate a suspicious vehicle in Fort Calhoun after a resident reported a blaring car horn near the ballfields. They searched the surrounding area but were unable to locate the source.

  1. I wasn’t aware that there was a fun little song for the report. Maybe put the youtube link at the top of the page? It certainly is a fun little wrap up!
