Friday, December 13, 2024 Winter weather brought tragedy to Washington County when a two-vehicle head-on collision on Highway 30 at County Road 15 claimed one life. Earlier that day, deputies conducted a felony stop at 7000 County Road P35 after reports of a suicidal subject holding a gun to his head. The individual was taken into protective custody and transported to Immanuel. As conditions deteriorated, deputies assisted multiple stranded motorists and worked with State Roads to clear stuck semi-trucks on Highway 91. The morning had begun with the arrest of Jaiveon Wells during a traffic stop on Highway 75 at County Road P43 for driving under suspension.
Saturday, December 14, 2024 A morning motorist assist on Highway 75 at Caley Avenue required translation services for a Russian-speaking driver. Deputies later responded to livestock incidents, including a cow that had breached its enclosure near Highway 30 and County Road 19. Property owners assisted in securing the animal until its owner could be contacted. The day included continued investigation into Friday’s fatal accident.
Sunday, December 15, 2024 Deputies in Arlington arrested Adam Houghtelling for DUI third offense, with additional charges of refusal and driving under revocation. Fire crews extinguished a vehicle fire at County Road 15 and County Road P32 before deputies arrived. In Blair, Joseph Wood was arrested for driving under suspension. The day’s enforcement activity included issuing citations for trespassing and criminal mischief at 2700 Mad Hatter Lane.
Monday, December 16, 2024 A traffic stop at Highway 133 and County Road P26 shortly after midnight led to the discovery of a concealed handgun after deputies detected marijuana odor. Business checks continued through the early morning hours, with deputies inspecting 14 properties in Arlington and 18 in Fort Calhoun.
