Blair’s youngest learners and their families are in for a treat this December. The South Early Learning Center is hosting their Winter Family Engagement Night on December 5th from 5:00-7:00 PM, bringing together families from all corners of their early childhood programs.
“The purpose of the Blair Community Schools Early Childhood Preschool Program is to provide a high quality early childhood experience for your child in a safe, supporting and stimulating environment where children develop and progress in a fun, developmentally appropriate classroom,” explains Shane Keeling, Director of Student Services for Blair Public Schools.
What sets South apart is their innovative approach to early learning, including specialized sensory spaces. “Our Sensory Room has gross motor, imaginary play and calm down areas,” Keeling shares. “The new crash pad is for those kids that need that proprioceptive input! A ‘Cozy Canoe’ is also available for those kids that need a little more deep pressure.”
The center’s commitment to accessibility is reflected in their tiered tuition system, which ranges from $150 to $0 per month based on family circumstances. Their preschool program runs Monday through Thursday, with morning sessions from 8:10-11:30 AM and afternoon sessions from 12:15-3:35 PM.
Keeling emphasizes their unique teaching approach: “Teachers and paraprofessionals play a crucial role in supporting children’s learning and development within the interest and play areas. They act as facilitators, observers, and collaborators, engaging children in meaningful experiences that promote exploration, discovery, and skill development.”
For Blair’s youngest residents, the center offers the Sixpence program. “Sixpence supports local and state partnerships that raise the bar for highly effective, quality early care and education for Nebraska’s families with the youngest and most vulnerable children,” Keeling explains.
The upcoming Winter Family Engagement Night promises to showcase these various programs through interactive, hands-on activities appropriate for all age groups.
