The final days of 2024 brought steady activity for Blair’s law enforcement officers. A driver’s suspended license violation on South Highway 30 marked December 26th. The following day, December 27th, turned more serious when Michael Cheers, 37, of Blair, faced arrest for third-degree domestic assault at 2200 College Drive.
December 29th proved to be the week’s most active day. At 0141 hours, Jay Christiansen, 44, was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant at 1100 Lincoln Street. Throughout the day, four separate speeding violations occurred – two on Washington Street with drivers exceeding the 25 mph limit by more than 13 mph, and another notable case on South 19th Street where a driver was cited for traveling 57 in a 45 zone. At 1942 hours, Justin Renz, 38, of Tekamah, was arrested at 1800 Colfax for second-offense DUI, child abuse, open container of alcohol, and expired registration. The day concluded at 2345 hours when officers apprehended De’Shawn Penn, 26, of Omaha, on an outstanding warrant at 2800 Angel Share.
December 30th recorded a single incident – a vehicle registration violation on Washington Street. However, New Year’s Eve saw increased activity with five separate violations: two drivers cited for traveling 35 in a 25 mph zone at 10th and Wilbur, a stop sign violation and a no operator’s license incident on Washington Street, and a driver cited for going 50 in a 35 mph zone on South 19th Street.
The first day of 2025 continued the pattern of speed enforcement with two significant citations – one for driving 53 in a 30 mph zone on Washington Street, and another for traveling 50 in a 35 mph zone on South 19th Street. The week concluded on January 2nd with a no valid registration citation on South 19th Street at 2013 hours, followed by the arrest of Miranda Raymundo, 33, of Omaha, on a warrant at 600 South 19th at 2245 hours.
