Kidnapping Scam Hits Washington County – Sheriff’s Report for January 10 – 13, 2025

Friday, January 10 – The day began with a property damage accident at County Road 4 and P2 at 12:45 AM. Around 3:02 AM, a party reported putting their vehicle into a ditch at County Road 15 and County Road 10; upon follow-up at 3:30 AM, deputies found the vehicle on its side and red tagged it. Business checks were conducted in Arlington, and Fort Calhoun had school patrols. At 7:45 PM, deputies responded to the WC Fairgrounds for an automatic fire detection/water flow alarm, finding a broken pipe in the RVR building. The evening included assisting a motorist who ran out of gas at Highway 31 and 30, investigating a propane smell at CR P25 and CR 34 (nothing located), and conducting special attention checks.

Saturday, January 11 – After routine overnight business checks in Arlington and Fort Calhoun, deputies assisted BPD with a welfare check in Blair. At 8:29 AM, a traffic stop at Highway 133 and mm13 resulted in the arrest of Edwardo Chavez (11/19/80) on a Sarpy County warrant. Deputies monitored an area after complaints about reckless semi trucks hauling dirt, but observed no violations. The day ended with investigating a suspicious vehicle in Arlington, which turned out to be someone exercising their dogs in the upper field above the ballfield.

Sunday, January 12 – At 2:14 AM, deputies assisted Blair PD with a traffic stop that resulted in a DUI arrest. A car vs deer accident was reported at 7:01 AM at 4100 Crestwood Circle. Deputies investigated possible animal neglect at 12400 Ann Dr., finding the dogs healthy with adequate food and shelter. At 3:36 PM, a resident reported receiving a threatening call from someone claiming to be with a cartel and alleging kidnapping. The evening saw another car/deer incident at Highway 75/Bridgeview Dr. at 6:12 PM, and at 11:33 PM, deputies responded to 13100 CR 16 where a party had crashed into a ditch, requiring BLFD check due to airbag deployment.

Monday, January 13 – Only routine early morning business checks were conducted in Arlington (14 checks) and Fort Calhoun (13 checks), along with a special attention check at 2300 CR P43, all completed by 4:04 AM.

Arrests:

  • Edwardo Chavez (11/19/80) – Sarpy County warrant
  • One DUI arrest (by Blair PD with WCSO assist)
