For Blair resident Paul Hudon, reliable internet isn’t just about streaming movies or gaming – it’s essential for his livelihood. As a work-from-home call center employee, Hudon recently made the switch to Great Plains Communications‘ fiber service after experiencing limitations with his previous provider.
“I had American Broadband, which I think they call themselves Fastwyre now,” Hudon explained. “Their 25 megabit DSL was way too slow to stream TV and movies and work.”
Hudon, who describes himself as “pretty tech savvy,” found the transition straightforward. “I went to their website and did it all online,” he said. “It was pretty straight forward and I just chose the plan and speed I wanted.”
The improved service has made a significant difference in his daily work routine. While Hudon primarily uses his connection for work, streaming entertainment, and light gaming, the reliability factor became apparent during a recent service interruption.
“An outage happened that knocked me offline for a couple hours during a workday,” Hudon recalled. “They were great, they told me exactly what happened and what the ETA was, and it was pretty close to what they said.”
His advice to other Blair residents considering a switch? “I’d say go for it. It’s great internet for a great price!”
For Hudon, one of the most valuable aspects of the service has been the ability to manage things independently. “I do call center work, I don’t like talking to customer care at places if I can avoid it,” he noted. He particularly appreciates the consistent billing, speed, and self-service options.
While Hudon hasn’t worked with any specific team member regularly, he mentioned that “their whole tech support and customer service team seemed chill” during his limited interactions with them.
When asked about the overall difference in service quality, Hudon was direct: “Service is better, more dependable, and cheaper, faster. Nothing bad.”
