BLAIR, NEBRASKA (2024 JULY 18, THURSDAY) – The Blair Lions Club is excited to announce its 2024 Bob Krogh Memorial Peach & Pear Sale, a beloved annual tradition that supports numerous community initiatives. This year’s sale, named in honor of a dedicated former member, continues the club’s long-standing commitment to service and community support.
Dr. Ryan Palmer, immediate past president of the Blair Lions Club, shared insights into the sale’s namesake and significance. “Bob was a long-time member of our Lions Club and this project was near and dear to him,” Palmer explained. “He consistently sold the most lugs during our Sale every year and had many customers who would seek him out to buy from him. Bob passed a few years ago and we decided to name the Sale in honor of his dedication and commitment to our Club and the yearly Sale.”
The sale features high-quality fruit from Fuller Orchards in Colorado. When asked about what makes these peaches and pears special, Palmer noted, “Fuller Orchards has great fruit every year. Their peaches and pears are always juicy and ripen in a timely period so that the fruit can be enjoyed fully.”
The logistics of bringing the fruit to Blair is a testament to the broader Lions organization’s efficiency. “The Nebraska Lions contract a trucking company (owned by Lions Club members) from out near Aurora. They deal with all the logistics of loading and transporting our delivery,” Palmer explained.
Proceeds from the sale support a variety of local initiatives. Palmer elaborated, “Funds raised during this project are used to help those in need with eyeglasses and hearing aids, park improvement at Lions Park, Community Scholarships to Graduating High School Seniors and Diabetes Awareness. We also fund the charter for Boy Scout Troop 143 in Blair.”
The Blair Lions Club, chartered in 1941, has a rich history of community service. Reflecting on the club’s evolution, Palmer stated, “Naturally, we have changed with the times and with technology. One thing that has not changed is our commitment to Blair and Washington County and upholding the motto of Lions Club International ‘We Serve’.”
As an optometrist, Palmer’s involvement with the Lions Club aligns closely with his professional passion. “Being an Optometrist, my passion is to help people see. I love that the Lions have this as their mission,” he shared. “Secondarily, being a Lion has allowed me to be of service in multiple capacities to Washington County and our Communities.”
Looking ahead, the club continues to grow and evolve. “This past year we have increased our membership and continued our commitment to Serving our neighbors and Communities throughout Washington County and specifically Blair,” Palmer noted, adding that the incoming president, Austin Kubie, “is a go-getter and will be a great leader of our Club.”
The 2024 Bob Krogh Memorial Peach & Pear Sale not only offers delicious fruit to the community but also serves as a powerful reminder of the Blair Lions Club’s enduring commitment to service and community support.
