The Blair Historic Preservation Alliance (BHPA) and Washington County Museum have released their 2025 Historic Picture Calendar, celebrating successful preservation efforts across Blair and Washington County.
This year’s calendar highlights recent preservation victories, including the Washington County Museum’s renovation of the historic Frahm House. Built in 1905 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the house recently received improvements including a new wrap-around porch and wheelchair ramp, making it more accessible for community events.
Downtown Blair’s architectural heritage is featured prominently. The Warrick Building at 1667 Washington Street, built in 1912, showcases successful adaptive reuse. Once home to various businesses including an auto dealership, bakery, and bowling alley, it now houses Washington Street Preschool and residential space. The former Blair Post Office building at 140 South 16th Street, which served the community from 1901-1970, is being renovated by Washington County Bank for their marketing and loan processing divisions.
“Many more historic structures have been lost to the ‘wrecking ball’ or fallen into disrepair,” notes the calendar’s introduction. “Hopefully our salute to those who preserve historic buildings can serve as inspiration and a nudge to save more of these structures.”
The calendar costs $10, with proceeds supporting both organizations’ preservation work. Copies are available at Main Street Boutique in Blair, the Washington County Museum in Fort Calhoun, and the Washington County Chamber of Commerce. Previous years’ calendars, featuring themes like “Main Street USA” and “Founders and Families of Washington County,” are available for $5.
